Can't crawl contents below PWA level RRS feed

  • Question

  • In advance, I do not know whether this is a project(pwa) or a sharepoint server specific issue so here it comes:

    Steps I've taken so far:
    • I installed sharepoint and project 2k10 on a virtual machine with the sql server on another.
    • I chose to provision PWA under root which is the web application "http://projects-e.mydomain.comt" (worked all fine so far)
    • Configured SharePoint Search which works fine with other pages (indexing and finding)
    • I created a wiki directly under the Project Web App  by clicking on site actions > new website > enterprise wiki and it now resides under http://projects-e.mydomain.com/wiki

The problem I now have is, that when it comes to search or rather when it comes to crawling, the crawler can obviously not reach the wiki's contents/sites because it only says "http://projects-e.mydomain.com/wiki crawled" and does not index any further sites.

I already tried to work around the problem by creating the wiki as a site collection under "projects-e.mydomain.com/sites/wiki", which worked and suddenly the crawler indexed all of the sites of my wiki. But, at the end I had to realize that this is not a real solution, because I think I'm going to face the same problem with my project web sites and that would be a thing i can not work around. So I guess I have to figure that out in order to provide searchable project web sites for my company!

I actually do not know hot to go any further, so I would be really happy to receive any advice how to proceed.

    kind regards, Thomas

  • In 1 attempt, you created Site under PWA site collection. So you need to crawl PWA site collection to search Wiki.

Otherwise, create Wiki as site collection under PWA, so that you can search as per your expectation.

  • If you want to discuss about Wiki, then sharepoint is the correct forum.

Are you able to search your Project Web App Content?

Do you want to create Wiki under PWA? If yes, create as site collection instead Site, check the status.

Not sure about your current expectation on this thread, could you please give more idea?

  • yes, my first intention was to create a wiki under pwa by using site actions > new website > enterprise wiki, but i ended up with a wiki and contents that can neither be crawled nor be searched because the wiki's sites were never indexed.

Our Intention: We wanted to have a wiki for our project managers and i asked my co workers whether they want to have it separate or under the project server itself (under the PWA). So I created a wiki below PWA level - path: Project Web App > Wiki but i could not search the contents this way. So "as i mentioned in my last post" i started to try another way.. which was to create a enterprise wiki as a new site collection under the same web application as the PWA

    current paths and attempts:

    • pwa: http://projects-e.mydomain.com
    • wiki (1st attempt): http://projects-e.mydomain.com/wiki    created directly out of the PWA , whereas it has a direct reference and you can actually go back to pwa with the button in the ribbon (which i thought is a neat thing) --> not indexed and not searchable
    • wiki (2nd attempt, as new site collection ): http://projects-e.mydomain.com/sites/wiki --> indexed and searchable

The question is, can I create something directly below PWA level (out of PWA) and get it searchable?

    regards Tom

I did crawl the PWA (projects-e.mydomain.com) where the pwa is.. but my search service crawler never got the wiki sites.. whyever!?

The rest of the contents is searchable through PWA (project web sites, libraries and so on) only the wiki is not working properly.

I think I'm going to create the wiki site separate under the web application URL as a site collection, even if the link between the wiki and the PWA will then be non existent and i will need to add one by myself.

    though thx. for listening
