Error ID 4387 when installing DPM2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I am trying to install DPM2010 onto a physical server running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
I am receiving error ID 4387 during installation.

"An unexpected error occured during the installation"

DPM creates two local accounts when installing - MICROSOFT$DPM$Acct and DPMR$ENDEAVOUR

MICROSOFT$DPM$Acct is created but it wont start the SQL Service for the SQL instance and gives LOGIN DENIED error

The second account does not even get created as the installation fails with the 4387 error.

I have googled and almost every post says the user rebuilt their server.

I saw another post which recommended rebuilding the WMI
I didnt go that far and tried this link instead
I then tried the install again and now am getting an error that I must reinstall the SQL 2008 manually

Do you have any ideas on how to assist me on this please?

I can send the original DPM Setup Log if you send me an email address

What I am currently doing is uninstalling the SQL and then going to try the DPM install again.

  • Hi Tanya,

If this is a new server and not a upgrade i would try to:

    1. Remove everything regarding DPM and the local SQL
    2. Rebuild the WMI Repository

    Follow these steps:
    1. Go to elevated command prompt.
    2. Stop the Windows Management service using "net stop winmgmt".
    3. Using Windows Explorer, rename the folder
    %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository. (For example,
%windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository_bad). %windir% represents the path to the
Windows directory, which is typically C:\Windows.
    4. Start the windows management service using "net start winmgmt".
    5. rebuild the repository using "winmgmt /salvagerepository".

If that doesn't work, reinstall the server OS.

    Best Regards
