V2V from EXSi 6.0 to HyperV RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all

I have a problem with converting my virtual machines from ESXi 6.0 to HyperV.

There are SC VMM 2012 R2, Vmware ESXi 6.0, Windows Server 2012 R2 with HyperV role.

Several virtual machines converted without errors, but most of them failed with error 2940: "VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server 172.16.240.43 could not be established.  (Unknown error (0x80072ee2))"

The only difference between VMs is size of disks. If size of attached disk is more than around 60-70 GB - convert job will failed with 2940 error (after it replace around 60-70 GB to HyperV).

I tried to change generation of converted VM, type of SCSI controller - it not helps.

I can access to ESXi server by HTTP and HTTPS.

I have a several ESXi servers and HyperV servers, and this problem observed on all of it.

So what i can do for successful V2V convertation?

  • Hi Sir,

Virtual machine hosts and host clusters that run any of the following versions of VMware:

    - VMware ESX 4.1
    - VMware ESXi 4.1
    - VMware ESXi 5.0
    - VMware ESXi 5.1
    - VMware ESXi 5.5 (supported in Update Rollup 7 and later)

  • Hi!

    But:

VMM in System Center 2012 R2 supports the V2V machine conversion of virtual machines that are hosted on the following versions of VMware ESX:
    ESX/ESXi 4.1
    ESXi 5.1
    ESXi 5.5
    ESXi 6.0

  • Hi Sir,

It seems that article was not updated correctly .

In the original post , that error  mentioned "The connection to the HTTP server 172.16.240.43 could not be established.  (Unknown error (0x80072ee2))" , which server gets IP 172.16.240.43 ?

  • The best option in such cases is to download the virtual machines disks (if possible) to a Windows-based VM or PC/server and convert them using StarWind V2V converter https://www.starwindsoftware.com/converter. It is free and supports all common ESX and Hyper-V disk formats so will definitely do the job for you.
