can't remove read only attribute even though I'm an owner RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been trying to remove the read only attribute of a folder that I copied to another computer. Many others have this problem and a commonly suggested solution is to "make yourself an owner". Problem is the person I'm logged in as, is listed as one of the owners and I still can't change the read only attribute.

  • Hi,

    Try this:

You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

  • Folders don't actually have a read only attribute only files within.

What problem are you having with the folder/files?
