Mapped DFS network folder cause windows explorer to hang RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have an environment running with windows xp service pack 3 and distribute file system (DFS) mapped network folder.
Domain level is windows 2003 service pack 2 and dfs server are running in windows 2008 service pack 2.

whenever any of the client machines connects open window explorer/my computer on a slow or vpn network, window explorer/my computer will freeze forever. The computer can function properly except for this problem. The only way is to disconnect my network cable or perform a restart.
I suspect it is due to the unavailable of SMB port 445 to the dfs file server.

I could not find any solution or hotfix from google or microsoft knowledge base.
I have also tried to search for ways to change any dfs registry to reduce the interval or prevent it as much as possible.
At the moment I am clueless, appreciate for any help or experience to resolve this.
