Increasing Scope of IP's in windows enviroument RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have windows 2012 AD environment with IIS & MS SQL running on it.

Our current IP range is from 192.168.100.* with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. We are getting very close to .254 IP (Only 10-15 IP's). I am not sure about  how to increase scope IP & to be ready for keep adding devices as per organisations requirement.

Can someone let me know the how do I proceed for this.

    Thanks,

    Sandesh

  • It depends.. :)

If this is a self contained network and you are not part of a bigger network then you can just update your subnet mask and expand the subnet address space. (If you are part of a bigger network then you need a detailed plan)

If you take your current subnet 192.168.100.0 subnet 255.255.255.0 which has 254 host addresses available

Updated the subnet to 255.255.254.0 you will now have 510 addresses in the subnet.

Updated the subnet to 255.255.252.0 you will now have 1022 addresses in the subnet.

Just update the subnet on all machines with hardcoded IP addresses and on your DHCP server. It should be easy and painless.
