Change login prompt RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to replace the welcome screen with a prompt for a user name and password.
Ctrl+alt+del does not appear to bring up the prompt at the welcome screen.

  • Hi, Kevstar.
There is (so long as you're running the RC, or a Professional or higher version of RTM.)

Open the Group Policy editor.  Navigate to Computer configuration\Windows settings\security settings\local policies\security options.  Open "Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL", and set to 'disabled.'
Also (same path) set "Interactive logon: Do not display last user name" to 'enabled.'
Close gpedit, and reboot.  Bam!  Classic (Win2k-style) logon screen (CTRL+ALT+DEL, enter username and password.)

    HTH,
    Chris

  • I am not aware of any options that can be used to change the logon screen to Classic. Perhaps there'll (or already) be a 3rd party software or tweaks that enable this.
