Azure VPN Client fails to connect to azure virtual WAN Hub. Crashes network interface. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have recently begun to switch multiple site to site VPNs in azure to Virtual WAN. And with that we have embraced the Virtual Wan Hub User VPN solution. This works with the azure VPN Client to provide network connectivity to multiple networks.

What we have see however is that some users will periodically get an error saying:
"connecting to vpn server failed with exception: No such host is known". NOTE the configuration is in use on multiple machines and was functional of the client machine previously.

Running diagnosis in the Azure VPN Client suggests everything is fine.

After the client stops trying to connect inevitably the network adapters on the device fail, dropping Wi-fi connectivity etc. on the machine. essentially it looks like the tunnel partially connects, begins to configure traffic and then fails.

Network Resets and Pc Restarts will restore the network card functionality, but the VPN will not connect.  We've tried uninstalling the client etc.

On one Pc the only solution I could identify was a AutoPilot reset of the device but this is not a scalable option.

What else could/should we try to restore VPN functionality?
