UNABLE TO INSTALL .NET FRAMEWORK UPDATE ON XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • DOES THIS UPDATE REALLY MATTER?

THIS UPDATE FAILURE HAS BEEN HAPPENING REGULARLY FOR YEARS AND MY XP IS STILL WORKING OK

THIS IS THE SEQUENCE EVERY TIME

    High-priority updates
This update can have system-wide effects or address more than one problem. It must be installed separately from other updates.
We recommend you install it and then return to our home page to check if your computer needs other high-priority updates.

    Microsoft Windows XP

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

     Initializing installation... done!

Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 (update 1 of 1)...

THEN ALL I GET IS THAT IT WILL NOT INSTALL

I AM A 70YO CODGER WITH NO TEKKO SKILLS

I AM SORT OF HOPING THAT MICROSOFT WILL READ THE REPORTS THEY KEEP GETTING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT FOR ME

AM I LIVING IN A 'DREAM WORLD'?

  • Any error message displayed? You can try installing the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 by downloading the installer from the following address

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

    and executing it.

    Bye.

  •  I got careless and stupidly frustrated.    I know better, but I downloaded your recommended link.

Now my problems are worst.   Microft Update site no longer can identify needed updates.   It searches forever.   And I had to reinstall some of my software including my HP printer tools to get them to work again after I downloaded your link.

As before, I still cannot run my disk backup appliacation which I have been using because it requires .net framework 2.0 which I still cannot load.   Can't install .net Framework 2.0 or 3.5 - as before.  This problem started after I updated to XP Service Pack 3 on my machine.  Other than these problems, my system is running great for most applications.

So what can I do to get Microsoft Update site working again??  Can I reverse what ever your recommended download did?
