Strange sound problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate V6.0.6000 last March. I had everything working fine (including the sound). Then a couple of weeks ago the sound stopped working. What makes it even more strange is the fact that the soundcard is still detected and Windows continues to play the audio files and in the mixer, the colour lever still shows when a sound is being played. The volume is currently set to maximum.

I updated my audio drivers, re-installed all the codecs (K-Lite Codec Pack Full 3.10), updated the Video card driver (in case it helps) and updated Windows. Still no sound can be heard.

The connection from my speakers to the soundcard is working. I know this because I used another harddrive with Windows XP installed on the same PC and the sound works perfectly.

My hardware specifications are as follows:
Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz with HT
    1GB PC3200/400MHz DDR Ram
    ASUS P4V8X-X
    Gainward NVIDIA GeForce 6200
AC'97 Audio Sound Card (built-in the Motherboard)
    _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG

    Hope someone can help me.
