GPO Blocking Youtube HTML5 videos

    Question

  • Hi everyone,

A customer has a policy in place that is blocking youtube html5 videos.
Problem is that nobody know which settings is causing the block of html5 videos on youtube.

I've tried to disable the GPO Link - and youtube videos are working just fine.
When the link is enabled there is no chance to see a youtube video (you see only the black screen and the loading circle).

I really don't know which settings could be the responsable for the youtube video blocking.

    Someone has an advice?

    Thanks and Cheers

  • Hello Mark,

I've found the settings at the end.

    It was :

    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet control Panel\Advanced Page --> Play videos in web pages

    This settings was disabled.
I tought it would only work on IE 6.0 on Windows2003Sp1 (because the requirements say: Only Internet Explorer 6.0 in Windows 2003 Service Pack 1) - but once set on "Not configured" the videos start playing again.

Thank for pointing me in the correct direction.

    Cheers

ok, and where is your problem now?
You know the GPO, you know it´s within AdmTemplates\Windows
    components\Internet Explorer.
What does you stop from disabling one policy by the other, if logic does
    not help?

    - create a test OU
    - move object into
    - link a copy of specific GPO to it
    - start working

Disabling 30 settings, gpupdate and restart IE will be much faster than
googling or waiting here for the answer ...

By the way: configuring "Site to Zone Assignment List" in both objects
usually makes no sense, because the computer configuration of IE always
win. If configured in computer configuration, the user settings are ignored.

Site to Zone Assignment List is only additiv, within the same object.

You should cleanup your configuration, huge GPOs are hard to
troubleshoot and they tend to keep all senseless data.
No one cleans up. Like "Configure Toolbar Buttons" or "Browser menus"
thats only IE 5 and 6 that are hopefully running only on a few systems.

Beside of that, move youtube.com to the trusted sites or for testing
into intranet. Does it work? then your problem is reduced to:
    Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control Panel/Security
    Page/Internet Zone

I saw this, it would have been my first try, but I did not write it
because the "supported on" said only IE5&6 :-)

This setting is very old and I guess the ADMx/ADM section was never
updated on this text entry to "IE5 and above"
