Rebuild index fail RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Recently we have configured maintenance plan on our CM db. But every day we got a same error on rebuild index failure. Some times its ALTER INDEX [RBAC_ExtendedPermissions_ScopeTypeID_..." or some time its "ALTER INDEX [Flat_Group_User_Relationship_PK] ON [..." .

    Full Error:

"Executing the query "ALTER INDEX [ArticleData_AK] ON [dbo].[ArticleData..." failed with the following error: "Transaction (Process ID 125) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly."

Can it be be possible to ignore and continue with next ?

  • You should consider using Ola Hallengren's script for this: https://ola.hallengren.com/

I don't know if this will address the problem you are seeing or not, but his scripts are widely used and recommended.

  • Honestly, this has nothing to do with ConfigMgr specifically and you are best to work with a DBA to figure out where the deadlock is occurring as no one will be able to tell you exactly what's going on without direct troubleshooting.

Ultimately, the above isn't harmful, it just says it couldn't perform the re-index on that table.

How did you set up your maintenance plan and when do you have it running?

  • We have set it up using management console . Just drag and drop from tool box. And it has scheduled on out of business hours (i.e 1 am).
