How to run Active Directory in Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys!

Now, you know active directory can be installed in many OS's. So how do I install it in Windows 7? I don't want to download anything because I have my Windows Server 2003 R2 Installation CD. I found dcpromo.exe, but I don't know how to install it! Even the same for Sharepoint services. If I try to install SharePoint services for my CD, it just says this message:

"Windows SharePoint services has a known compatibility issue with Windows 7"

You guys know any hack or tweet to run dcpromo, or sharepoint setup in Windows 7?

  • AD worked in server OS (2003, 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2)

You can run dcpromo on 2003 - 2008r2 os, and configure domain on it. On 2012 - 2012r2 you need run server manager and add role ADDS

Client os dosent work as domain controller. Client os can be domain member only

  • Hi,

you can join Windows 7 to domain.

    - you need Windows 7 Pro or higher edition

    - a configured domain controller. If it is just for learning/testing, you can download Windows server trial to build your own domain controller and to configure your own domain.
