Dynamic VHDX for iSCSI RRS feed

  • Question

  • I intend on using a iSCSI drive from our NAS as a storage drive for vhd(x) files on one of our host servers. We did a dry run and worked fine but we allocated the entire drive space as a iSCSI drive which left the physical drives partition with no free space. This obviously would not be good practise so:

Are there any specific drawbacks / concerns we should be aware of when using a dynamic expanding drive as a iSCSI drive specifically when it comes to it also then containing vhd drives for virtual machines. My understanding with a iSCSI drive is that it is by itself a vhdx file. Obviously we would like to get the best performance so not sure if it's better to just create a network share on which we will share the vhd files to the host server or if the iSCSI setup would offer any real value.
