Why does rebooting 1 application server running the Project Application Service take down PWA? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a large MOSS 2007 farm.   We have 2 boxes dedicated to hosting the Project Application Service.   If we reboot one of those boxes it crashes PWA.  With 2 boxes running the service we thought PWA would stay online as long as one of those boxes was up and running.  Is something configured incorrectly?

  • Project servers doesn't work in the regular Load balancer logic.

When you start the project application service in the second server, automatically both the servers will be in round robin for the Shared service provider. It requires both the servers to be online.

If you want to reboot the first / second server, go to central admin site and stop the "project application service" when the server is online.

Then check the PWA status, Later do whatever you want on that server.

  • Correct, it doe not sounds right. Are you sure you are following the SP documentation on how to remove a server from a farm before doing the reboot?
