EXO hosted mailbox | Auto-Archive to local PST missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • per this documentation: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/archive-older-items-automatically-25f44f07-9b80-4107-841c-41dc38296667

"Tip: Archive and AutoArchive might not be available if your mail profile connects to an Exchange Server. It's also possible that your organization has a mail retention policy that overrides AutoArchive. Check with your system administrator for more information."

Our main issue, is that the option to automatically archive emails to a local PST is missing.

We would very much want to have this back. We understand and know about the Online Archiving but we would want this local archiving available as well. Is there any configuration that we need to do?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

If the Online archive has been enabled with Exchange 2016, Exchange 2010, Exchange 2013 or Office 365 account then client-side archiving options are disabled by MS Outlook and archiving will be performed on a special Exchange mailbox.

In this situation, you may use Retention Policy as a workaround to move items in Primary mailbox to the archive one.

    Hope this can be helpful.

  • Hi,

Do you mean that the AutoArchive option in your Oultook client is missing?

Whether this issue occurs only on your computer or there are many people in your organization have this issue as you?

Can you find it via clicking File > Options > Advanced > AutoArchive > AutoArchive Settings. Or you can right-click your email folder such as "Inbox" > Properties and see if you can find "AutoArchiv" tab.

If you can't find the auto-archive option anywhere, please contact your organization admin to see if he has disabled this option via GPO or enable online archive for your organization.

If the admin did not set anything, please try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile and see if there is any difference.

    Hope this can be helpful.

  • We no longer have the option and as far as we know no GPO settings was made. Does having online archiving mean we lose the capability to use the auto archive feature or is there a workaround to enable both?
