Project schedule open error after server migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I've got error when trying to open any project schedule from Project Server 2010 after migrating of app server. (from low-powered APPSERVER1 to powerful APPSERVER2, DBSERVER was untouchable)

"The view failed to load. Press OK to reload this view with the default settings. Press Cancel to select another view."

I've saw this article http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brismith/archive/2010/09/17/project-server-2010-applied-august-cu-and-having-problems-with-jsgrid.aspx  But the APPSERVER1has not been updated by kb2352345.

Also i have one more bug - project workspace is not created when trying to create new project.

But settings of project creation is ok - Server Settings>Project Site Provisioning Settings checked "Automatically create a project site for each project when first published to Project Server."

Could you please help with this?

  • Hi Denis,

    For project loading issue,

Navigate to Server Settings>>Enterprise Project Types

    Click on Basic Project plan

Under PDP settings, make sure Project Schedule and Project Details is listed on right hand side area

For project workspace, check the queue for failed job for more details.

Do you see old project sites listed?

  •  Hi Hrishi,

all PDPs are ok, i have 3 pages there - Schedule, Project Details and Strategic Impact.

    Old project sites opens.

When create new project, this error appears

    • Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined.:
      • WSSURIInvalidFormat (16409). Details: id='16409' name='WSSURIInvalidFormat' uid='2197eb17-2d1c-43f7-82e3-05288fc41adc'.
    • Queue:
      • GeneralQueueJobFailed (26000) - CreateWssSite.CreateWssSiteMessage. Details: id='26000' name='GeneralQueueJobFailed' uid='a976dc3f-c5de-4bde-81d4-f9b503f8ee34' JobUID='426d72ec-556b-4314-a257-0b3275ea73ce' ComputerName='KPCAPP03' GroupType='CreateWssSite' MessageType='CreateWssSiteMessage' MessageId='1' Stage=''. For more details, check the ULS logs on machine APPSERVER1 for entries with JobUID 426d72ec-556b-4314-a257-0b3275ea73ce.

Strange thing - error specify APPSERVER1 , but i try to create project on APPSERVER2.

Also, when trying to open project site via ribbon, the page opens with message
"There is no site configured for this project. "

  • We have already farm with APPSERVER1  and DBSERVER with standard project databases - Project_Published_ITT and etc.

On APPSERVER2 installed SharePoint and Project Server, when running Configuration Wizard - tried to connect to the existing farm, but some errors appeared, then step back and created new farm.

Started and configured Project Service App, PerformancePoint Service app, created top level site, created project web app - and specify databases from previous web app, i.e. Project_Published_ITT and etc.

All projects' data was loaded, but some bugs appeared.

  • Ok, so looks like you have followed DB attached method, which is right thing to do.

Along with Project databases , did you use content database as well?

  • Please tell is more detailed?

  • Sure

I would use these steps in this particular scenario.

Take the backup of 4 project databases and content db associated with the web application on which PWA site has been provisioned.

Restore these databases with different name in SQL server. If you are using same server for Server1 and Server2.

Using Server2, create new web application and attach restored content database

Provision the PWA site using restored 4 databases and make sure to use same PWA name. e.g http://server1/pwa to http://server2/pwa

If you use different content databases you will loose PDP and workspace data

  • Hi,

Hrishi is right the error's you face have a lot in common with the error's you get when doing a four database restore. For more info this blog post might help you. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brismith/archive/2010/06/10/project-server-2010-restoring-or-migrating-pwa-instances.aspx

  • Hrishi,

Why we need change pwa to pwa2?

    http://server1/pwa to http://server2/pwa2

May i specify http://sitecollection/pwa ? Is it not dangerous?

  • Hi Denis,

When taking the 5 DBs, ensure that you use the same PWA path name so that everything links up correctly, so in your example /PWA.

    Thanks

  • Well, the story has finished. I've just save all available data manually and run again Wizard Configuration with new config db and all new databases + install hotfix from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brismith/archive/2010/09/17/project-server-2010-applied-august-cu-and-having-problems-with-jsgrid.aspx

    Thanks to all for assistance.
