MOSS 2007 SP3 and SharePoint Service 3.0 SP3. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am testing the  upgrading Moss 2007 from sp2 to sp3, after I installed 64bit WSS 3.0 sp3 from the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2526305

I kept get: the update is already installed on this system when I try to run the installer of Moss 2007 sp3(obtained from the following link)

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27803

Is this the designed behavior ? I know both sp3 are cummulative, is it because the only update in Moss 2007 sp3 are at the WSS layer ?

    Please help me.

  • Hi Weizhen,

You need to check whether the MOSS 2007 SP3 has been installed via server Contral Panel -> Add or Remove Programs (check the box of Show updates), which name is displayed as "2007 Microsoft Office System Servers Service Pack 3 (SP3)" .

Even if you installed the WSS 3.0 SP3, you can also install MOSS 2007 SP3 successfully for your SharePoint 2007.

    Thanks

  • Hi Weizhen,

My MOSS 2007 is 32-bit version, after patched wss3.0_SP3, SharePoint version from CA is 12.0.0.6608, and Microsoft.SharePoint.dll version from GAC is 12.0.6608.1000, and then after patched moss2007_SP3, versions are still 12.0.0.6608(from CA) and 12.0.6608.1000(dll).

From Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs, there is no SP3 info appeared after patched wss3.0_SP3, and after patched moss2007_SP3 the "2007 Microsoft Office System Servers Service Pack 3 (SP3)" is appeared.

You seems to have patched the moss2007_SP3 successfully from your description.

    Thanks

  • I had check this before, the Add or Remove Program shows:

"The 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Service Pack3(SP3) and Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 SP3,64-bit Editions"

However, in the "Click here for support information" , it is showing:

http://suppport.microsoft.com/kb/2526308, that kb does not exists at all, this is strange

For the Moss 2007 version#, in the central admin, it seems it is the version after the MOSS SP3.

  • Hi Weizhen,

Here is an article listing the SharePoint versions on different patch levels, you can check whether you have patched MOSS SP3 successfully.

  • Thank you for followup.

SharePoint version is 12.0.0.6608, which seems correct, can you confirm that means MOSS SP3 is successful applied, or this is just the SharePoint Service Version.

Should I double check the dll file's version ?

  • You can check also the content database version. Connect to you sql server using Management Studio, expand the content db, and then tables. Right click on the table dbo.Versions, and then Select top 1000 Rows – you should have the same version 12.0.0.6608
