Error MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (925672) - Error 0x80246003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got a machine W10 1809 with such an issue (see the subj). I tried to clean up the contents of the softwaredistribution folder - doesn't help. Tried the Update Troubleshooter, but it did not resolve the issue in my case.
    This update 925672 is for SQL Server Feature Pack, please do not confuse with KB925672.
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • Hi Petrokl,

    Thank you for posting here.

    The error 0x80246003 mentioned in the question means a download manager operation could not be completed because the file metadata requested an unrecognized hash algorithm.
    Try the following to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. If you are using WSUS to approve updates for the client, please confirm your WSUS system version. If the version is 3.0 SP2, you need to install the patch KB2734608 to fix support for newer versions of Windows.
    2. Are there other anti-virus programs installed in your environment? Try adjusting or disabling the relevant supervision function to complete the update installation.
    3. Look into the WindowsUpdate.log to see which file and which hash doesn't work.

    Reply back with the results would be happy to help.

    Regards,
    Yic

  • Hello Yic,

    Thanks for replying.

    1. I've got WSUS 10 version.

    2. We have Symantec AV. I'll check with disabled AV, but I don't think that it helps.

    3. Yes, I looked in WU.log Thanks for idea btw) I found that this 925672 was added to search result and then nothing happen... I mean there is no any failures according to the UpdateID or I just don't understand what I should find((

    Also if I try to install this update manually it finished with an error 0x80248007... In Application log I found an error:

    Product: MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB925672) -- Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly component {0E986363-A906-A6E7-A06B-D6B9ABF34537}. • Hi Petrokl,

    Please provide the installation section of WindowsUpdate.log, which will probably help with the research of the cause of error 0x80246003.

    Then, for problems encountered when manually installing updates, try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. The user has sufficient permissions to control the folder C:\Windows\WinSxS.
    2. Disable anti-virus and anti-spyware.
    3. Apply the HotFix KB832414 from Microsoft.
    4. There may be a conflict with a previous version of MSXML.
      You can uninstall MSXML 4.0 SP1 running the following from the command line:
      > msiexec /qn /x {35343FF7-939B-401A-87B3-FF90A5123D88}
      You can uninstall MSXML 4.0 running the following from the command line:
      > msiexec /qn /x {2AEBE10C-D819-4EBF-BC60-03BF2327D340}
    5. Try installing MSXML 4.0 SP2 again.

    Reply back with the results would be happy to help.

  • Hi,

    Sorry for such a delay. The issue were resolved after MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 3 installation. It looks more like workaround but it works for me. After MSXML 4.0 SP3 was installed, update 925672 wouldn't needed to install.

    Thank you for your help. Hope that this information will be useful for someone.

    Cheers.
