Challenges with Office 2010 & APP-V 4.6 SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • 1st let me say that i have spent hours trying to research but most of the relevant answers to my questions were pre-4.6 SP1. We are currently in the process of trying to determine if we should virtualize Office 2010. I have read that a lot of the issues with OS/Local integration (Sharepoint, etc) have been resolved with with 4.6 SP1, Office Deployment Kit, and setting up the correct proxies. I was wondering if  there is someone has used these tools and what issues they ran into? We deploy using SCCM but have decided that streaming would be too network intensive.

    I have sequenced Office 2010 (as painful as that was) and deployed via SCCM. It seems to be working ok with sharepoint and local resources. The only think I have noticed is that it is considerably slower to launch (not just the 1st time) but that may be due to our lab machines. Can anybody tell me how the performance is in their environment? We have mostly new machines with at least 4gb of ram.

    At the end of the day i need to compile Pro's and Con's for virtualizing Office 2010 so any answers help!!!

    Thanks in Advance!!!

  • Hello,

    Not really sure what "lab-machines" are, but common issues with startup performance is;

    Slow disk performance

    Poor antivirus configuration

    See this guide, which is applicable in all scenarios, for antivirus;

    Any third-party tool that normally causes any type of overhead could be the culprit aswell

  • To clarify, the machines in our Lab only have 1 GB of RAM and tend to be older machines then what we have in production. We plan to upgrade our lab to mirror production machines but we have not had the time.
