  • Hi Heba248,

You need to have an “unallocated disk space” to the right of the Partition\Volume you wish to extend on the same drive. Only when “unallocated disk space” is available “extend” option is highlighted or available.

Partition extending feature only works with contiguous space on the right side of the partition you would like to extend.

Please refer to the link below about how to Reallocate Space to C: Drive. "Extend Volume" Button Greyed Out.

For the security of files, I suggest that we could backup the important files to an external drive before extending the partition.

Hope it will be helpful to you

  • What is the empty size of the disk?

You might need to perform disk clean up and remove some unnecessary files or place them in somewhere else , so you get some free space for extend.

  • Normally, you may find that the option Extend Partition grayed out in Disk Management under the following situations:

1.The partition users want to extend is not a NTFS partition. Microsoft says extending volume feature in Disk Management only works with FAT32 and NTFS partitions.

2.There is no unallocated or free space on hard disk or the space is not contiguous and after the partition which needs extending.

3.Users want to extend a primary partition, but, instead of unallocated space, there is just a free space right after the target partition.

Currently, there is free partitioning software AOMEI Partition Assistant that can extend a partition without limitations.
