Windows 10 and EFS Error "Recovery policy data is in an ivalid format. Error code 0x177C" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have domain joined Windows 10 Ent. computer that logs me error complaining that "Recovery policy data is in an ivalid format. Error code 0x177C"

Weird is that that we have never configured any policy regarding EFS.

I have found that this error translates:
    ERROR_BAD_RECOVERY_POLICY 6012 (0x177C)
Recovery policy configured for this system contains invalid recovery certificate.

How can I clean up this error or what should I do?

  • Finally, I did a clean install to get rid of those errors and other weirdness... so from my point of view the case is closed for now...

  • This forum is for the tool MBAM (Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring), not for questions relating to the administration of encryption services on Windows. Your question is better suited to the Windows 10 Security forums and will be moved there.

Same issue here after a Win 7 upgrade to 10 v1511.

  • Yes, post the same non-helpful answer twice. That'll help everyone.
