Take a copy of backup to store at remote site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    The scenario is the following:

    • DPM 2012 R2 server
    • All of the backups are stored locally

    The question is:

Is it possible to take a copy (monthly) of the backups (to tape or external disks) to  be stored at remote site?

    (this due to legal conditions)

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

The idea is, if the datacenter fails, perform a restore using the remote stored backups.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

One of the solution would be to attach a tape drive to your DPM server and enable the "Long term retention" on your protection group. This way your data would be backed up to disk (based on your current schedule), then to tape based on a defined schedule (for example once per week). The tapes can then be shipped off site.

Another solution would be to enable backup to cloud (Azure). It follows the same principle than backing up to tape, but instead backs up the data up in Azure for long term retention.

    Hope this helps,
