Odata - as rich as SQL (syntax / functions)? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks,

I've had a look at Odata and it seems clear how it will be used for simple queries, however when I look at the SQL queries we run against our on-premise PS2010 I begin to wonder if Odata is capable of replacing SQL.

For example some of our queries do complex grouping/processing to assemble the data by financial year (rather than calendar year) as well as many other very complex processing.

Is Odata as rich as SQL in terms of syntax and functions?

  • Thanks Alexander - that is very helpful.

We are currently investigating whether we will be able to move to Project Online from our current 2010 on-premise.

Our key concern is being able to use our SSRS Reports (these are the ones that have the complex sql queries I was mentioning above).

Can LINQ or CSOM be used with SSRS/BIDS? I understand that Odata can be.
