Upgrade Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 to Enterprise Edition: Fail to Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello world!

The problem is simple. From a Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 (or SP1) we want to upgrade to an Entreprise Edition.

The operation is failing, since I need the upgrade option and not the custom installation. It simply indicates that we can't upgrade since we already got a newer version of Windows Server. The thing is that we need to do an upgrade without uninstalling the services pack, or for some machines go back from Windows 2008 Standard R2 to the straight Standard Edition. Some servers are hosting production SQL servers and we can't afford to downgrade our servers for the upgrade purpose (!)

Please advise about what is possible, what files may be modified to bypass that choking point?

    Thank you world!

Here trying to make it better and easier. NV, Qc province.

  • Hi,

Please uninstall the service pack before upgrading to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. Otherwise, please use a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with SP1 or SP2 integrated disk to perform the In-Place upgrade.
