find mailbox display name and mailbox type from email address in Exchange 2007 management shell RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I know there is a way to do this, I just can't find the correct syntax to use so any help would be welcome.

I need to get details of the account associated with an email address in Exchange 2007. We received several phishing emails sent to random addresses. Most were easy to find as they were the primary SMTP addresses, however there are a couple that would appear to be alias addresses and, short of going through every user account and distribution group, not to mention public folder, I need to be able to run a cmdlet to provide me with the account name and type associated with the email address. The reason for doing this is to establish if anyone in receipt of one of these phishing emails was foolish and entered their credentials on the fake password reset site.

I know this can be done as I used this in a previous job but no longer have the syntax memorized.

    Anyone able to provide this?

    Thanks
