List view grouped by type "Number" then by type "Text" does not expand to show entries in SharePoint Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • List view is grouped by field "Created year" of type "Number" and then by field "Created month" of type "Text" does not show entries while trying to expand the grouping. Both are calculated columns and return Number and Text respectively.

I have also tried by returning Date from "Created year" and also Date from "Created month" but it still does not let item entries expand

    Column: Created year settings:

    Column: Created month settings:

    View group by settings:

List view does NOT expand values:

    Where am i wrong?

  • Hi akg1421,

Per my test in my SharePoint online environment, I did the same steps as yours and encountered the same result as yours.

I created the date and time column “createdin”, then I created the calculated column “createdyear” with number and the calculated column “createdmonth” with single line of text. And then I group by the column “createdyear” and then group by the column “createdmonth”.

Then it will not display the items in the grouped by view.

To resolve the issue, we could select the single line of text data type for the calculated column “createdyear”.

    The result as below.

  • Hey Wendy DZ, Sara Fan

Yea your reply is actually the work around I undertook right after posting this question of mine... Thing is the “createdyear” a column of type text is not sortable hence I don't know how it will be manageable to have the year grouping sorted in ascending order.

And if you want me to accept your answer as a 100% working solution I can for sure. No problem from my side.. only issue is that the text columns are not sortable the way you proposed it

    Thanks

  • No ma'am the issue was not resolved. I don't if it's a bug but you can't just group by an "Integer" column

  • Hi akg1421,

We can sort the single line of text column by modifying the view.

And we also can group by the Number column. But for calculated column, we should select the single line of text as the data type and then group by the Number column.
