Multi SMTP Channel for diffrent notifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello anyone!

I have a short question. It is possible to create more than one SMTP Channel for notifiactions? In the OpsMgr 2012 is this function available. We want use diffrent Return Address for patch, change and problem. Is there any chance to do this?

Or is there another approach, iam open to any suggestions.

  • Correct, another class System.Notification.Channel.SMTP has ReturnAddress property but it is a singleton class.  So the story is over. Alex cannot create another instance of a singleton class.

  • Hi Alex,

I haven't checked but you can configure multiple SMTP channels in Administration-> Notifications -> Channels. As far as I remember the SCSM tries to send messages using every SMTP channel until the success.

  • Hi Marat,

Administration-> Notifications -> Channel(s) is correct, but you can only create one channel. In the Task panel you could not add another channel. Is there a solution for this?

  • Hi Alex,

You are right: there is only one SMTP Notification Channel, where you can add multiple entries for different SMTP Servers. The Return E-Mail address is the same for all SMTP Servers and there is no possibility to have more than one using Service Manager. The "Set-SCSMChannel" cmdlet targets also this specific channel.
You can achieve this functionality by using Orchestrator, where you have the "Send Email" activity, which you can use as often as you like, every time with different mail address. Hope this helps you further.

  • It's possible to create a new instance od the class System.Notification.SMTPConfigurationSource and try to edit it but no one can guaranty the result. But it could work.

  • Hi Marat,

I think the class doesn't have a property for the Return E-Mail address, so editing it may be useless.
