want to test a new farm name on our MOSS 2007 machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • We currently have machine xyz hosting farm myhost in domain CMP.

A new DNS record "newhost" has been created for this MOSS 2007 farm. I want to set up the new name and test it out without impacting the current usage of the machine. Once we have tested things out so that we know that from the software side of things it is working, then we can go about removing the information about the old name.

From the various reading I have done, it appears that the steps are:

    1. create newhost DNS.

    2. create iis binding between the sharepoint web app name and the new DNS

    3. create an aam for the new name

    4. create search source entries for the new name for content and for user profiles

Note that the domain is not changing . The name of the physical device for the machine will be changing but the hardware admins are going to be doing that.

Is there anything else that should be done ?

  • Looking back on this list, I guess I also need to get rid of the old bindings and aams as well. Anything else I might be missing?
