CRM 2011 to 2013 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I need to upgrade our crm 2011 to 2013 and there by have some upgrade questions about it.

    Our setup is like this:

Server 2008R2 with crm 2011 installed on.

Server 2008R2 with SQL, where crm 2011's DB is installed on.

    New setup:

Server 2012, where I want crm 2013 installed on.

I want to use the old SQL server and connect crm 2013 to that server, but not disable the old organisation/db

is it possible to maybe make a backup of the sql db - then restore it under another name and let crm 2013 point to that one? thereby still let the crm 2011 run side-by-side with crm 2013 until we see all works flowless?

    Thank you in advance.

  • As far as I know, you can not use the same SQL Server for two CRM Systems. This is because of the MSCRM_Config database for the CRM Server that has to be unique within the SQL Server. Therefore it is also not possible to have mixed CRM 2011 and 2013 organization databases on the same Server. You'll have to Setup a new SQL Server if you do not want to do an inplace upgrade but Keep the old database around for use.

For more Information about different upgrade strategies, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699716.aspx.
