unable to add removable drive in dpm2007 RRS feed

  • i attached 2 TB USB data drive directly with DPM 2007 machine and drive shows in My computer but unable to add it in DISKs--Microsoft DPM 2007

    This is not supported

    You can however use VTL software to use them as virtual tape

    But DPM can't use them as storage

  • You can *protect* a USB drive attached to a server with DPM, but it cannot be used in the DPM storage pool.

    As the gents before me mentioned its not supported to use a external USB harddrive for the DPM storage pool. One of the reasone is the removable storage services. But there is ofcourse a work-around...

    If your DPM server is a Hyper-V server (or virtual by any other means) you can put a VHD file on your USB. The only important thing is that the operating system will see the disk as a local storage. If you are using a virtual platform for your DPM solution it's do-able.

    BUT attatching a removable storage directley to a DPM server isn't supported.

  • I think another possibility is to use custom volumes instead of the DPM storage pool, but I'm not certain.
