WSUS: Powershell approval based on views RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

I'm looking into approving wsus updates following DTAP (Development, Testing, Acceptance and Production). We made several custom WSUS Update views and I was wondering if it's possible to approve updates using these views in combination with Powershell. So i'd like to script updating computergroups using the custom update views.

When I use the WSUS GUI, I have to do the following:

I select the correct WSUS Update view, for example with security and critial updates without SQL updates (to exclude service packs). I then use this view to filter the correct updates I want to approve. Then I click on approve and select the computer groups I want to update.

The custom update views are user-specific and saved in the %userprofile%\appdata\roaming\mmc\wsus file. Which is an XML file. But I can't find related information on what the mmc file filters and how to retrieve that information with UpdateServices module for Powershell.

Has anyone found a solution for this?
