How to check if a task has been removed from a project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to find out if a project manager has removed/deleted a task that had actual work from a project? We are experiencing some issues of actual work missing and seems to be the reason but we haven't figure out how to check it in the databases.

    Any help will be appreciated!

  • Hi,

There is no such a way to detect it, except if you check for the log or if you create a custom code (VBA) in MS Project to detect the event and store the information somewhere.

That being said, in order to prevent project managers doing so, I'd suggest you to activate the following option in the server settings/task settings and display. It will prevent PM from deleting actuals in the project plans.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi,

As Guillaume said there is no such way to detect it. However, there are a number of options you can look into (depending on your environment configuration):

    1. check the timesheets - a report can be built based on the approved timesheets and compared against the project actual work (it may not be identical but you can look for the project tasks that exist in the approved timesheets and not in the project plan)

    2. delegate as project manager and check if you can find anything in the approval status history

    3. after an administrative backup (or project saved as a local copy/duplicated project etc.), restore an older version and check for the missing tasks/work. Once completed restore the latest version using the administrative restore (or local copy/duplicated project etc.)

    Hope this helps
