Error Loading 64 Bit Office Professional Plus 2010 on a 64 bit Win 7 Pro Workstation

Question
-
I tried to load the 64 bit version of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 on a brand new 64 bit Win 7 Professional workstation today after loading ALL of the latest Microsoft updates including Service Pack 1. I got the following error when I tried to execute the setup.exe file: "Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s). This product requires Windows 2008 Service Pack 2 or above. Correct the issues above and rerun setup."
The install worked without a hitch last October on 64 Bit Win 7 workstations. I suspect an update since that date has created a problem.
HELP!!! I need a work around or a fix.

Sounds like the non-problematic Win 7 workstations do not have SP1 installed, correct? I would uninstall SP1 from the two problematic workstations as described here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/uninstall-sp1
Then uninstall/reinstall Office 2010 - if you have trouble doing this via the Control Panel, use the Fixit Tool at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.
If this works, then there's some kind of bug with SP1 and your configurations.

Hi,
Just curious - why are you installing Office 2010 64-bit? You might try the recommended 32-bit version.
see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee681792.aspx for the differences.
Uninstall the 64-bit version either via the Control Panel or the Fixit Tool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301), then reinstall either the 64-bit or 32-bit version.

I am running 64 bit Win 7 workstations and had purchased 120 licenses to run 64 bit Office on those machines last fall. They installed without a hitch. It is the two new Win 7 workstations that are driving me nuts.Monday, April 4, 2011 3:09 PM

The Microsoft gods smiled on me. Removing SP1 allowed the Office 2010 installation to work.
Thanks for your help
