Client manual push log error: Failed to send HTTP request. (Error at WinHttpSendRequest: 12002) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

There is weird problem I am facing, so if you have any idea, please post.

I successfully installed my client agent to most of my client PCs (XP, Win7 and Win8) but some computers are getting the client agent software but they are not installing it. As I see, This problem happens only on some (not all) Win7 computers. I can see ccmsetup.exe under the C:\Windows\ccmsetup path on those Win7 computers. Client log files repeatedly is giving the error:

Failed to send HTTP request. (Error at WinHttpSendRequest: 12002)    ccmsetup

So I checked my IIS. On some client computers (these client computers already have successfully installed client agent) I can browse http://SCCMserver.mydomain.local IIS page without any problem. However some Win7 computers can not browse http://SCCMserver.mydomain.local and they can not install the client agent.

Firewall is disabled on the domain level by a GPO, however we have hardware firewall between SCCM server and client computers. Because most of my computers can install client agent successfully, I think that, this should not be because of the firewall. I tried a lot of different things to solve this with no luck.

The account for client push installation is in the local administrator group on client computers.

I tried the procedure below and it didn't work either.

Go to IIS and expand Web Sites > CCM_Client -Right click CCM_Client and select Permissions -Add 'Everyone' and give them Read permissions.

I checked my DNS A records for sccm and client computers, they are correct. I don't know what to check next, please assist me on this.

Even If you have no idea about what is going on, thanks for reading anyway and excuse my English. I did my best :)

  • 12002 = ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT. The error mentions "http" because it's http traffic between the client and MP. I think that this error is not caused by ConfigMgr, but anything blocking communications.

  • Thanks Torsten,

The weird thing is some Win7 computers can install client agents and some can not and they are in the same subnet. I will talk to my network and firewall colleagues if they have any suggestion.

  • We have multiple network SSIDs in our organization. Client push was failing because the firewall was blocking port 80 traffic to Sccm server on one of our SSIDs. Basically if a computer connects SSID X, Then they were blocked to reach sccm on port 80.

    Thanks a lot Torsten
