Eliminate sort order of search results RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I search for a file by its content, I immediately start inspecting the results as they appear.  I don't want to twiddle my thumbs waiting for the search to complete.

In Windows 7, the results dynamically sort in descending-date order.  Files therefore bounce down the screen while I'm working on them, making it impossible to track which ones I've checked.

Is there a way to disable search's default sort order?  Changing it to "path" would help, but "off" would be best.

  • Right-click at the top of the pane of the the window where the results being displayed. You will find that a context menu appears that will allow you to customize the columns. That would reorder and refine search results to your preferences. Notice that you can uncheck those displayed. select More to find others and such.

After selecting and setting to your preferences, the search results should retain those and appear that way for each subsequent search after closing the results window.
