sharepoint mode permission for new team members RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Project Server 2013 On Premise in SharePoint mode of permission. I'm familiar with the classic Project Server mode of permission. In the classic mode, a PM had to build team and publish project for read access AND assign task and publish project for write access.

In the SharePoint permission mode, if a PM wants a new member to have access to project site (assuming the resource is setup, will the build team and assign task take care of it or will the PM have to manually add that person to the corresponding SharePoint group.

  • You'll have to manually add the user to the corresponding SP group if you're using SharePoint permissions mode.  SharePoint doesn't associate tasking a resource with providing permissions to a user even if the resource and user are the same entity.  (e.g. Resources can be users but they don't have to be).

Classic Project Server permissions handle this much better as you can setup permissions (on all current and future projects) by Team Member or Tasks.

  • Microsoft has some great videos about what's new in Project Server 2013 and Project Online in comparison to PS 2010.  Worth a watch if you have the time!
