  • Question

  • Is it possible to set up an area on MS Project 2010 to show informational messages to the end users when they log on?  We're looking to inform the users when new reports are available or  when time periods will be closed , etc.

  • Is actually fairly easy to do.

    1. From PWA, Site Actions, View All Site Content.
    2. Click Create
    3. Select Announcements
    4. Enter a Name of Announcements and select More Options to change the radio button to not show in Quick Launch
    5. Click OK and the list appears
    6. Click on the List tab
    7. Select Modify View
    8. Uncheck Attachments
    9. Under Style, select Boxed No Labels
    10. Click OK
    11. Go to PWA Home page
    12. Go to Site Actions, Edit Page
    13. Click Add a web part
    14. Select Announcements
    15. Select the web part checkbox and Edit Web Part properties
    16. Change Selected View to All Items
    17. Under the Appearance section, change Chrome Type to Title Only
    18. Click OK
    19. Unfortunately, the column headings will still appear, so you can use the technique from here to hide it: http://www.sharepointben.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=430
    20. Click Add a Web Part
    21. Under Media and Content, select Content Editor
    22. Click the "Click here to add new content"
    23. In the markup section of the Format Text tab, select the HTML button on the right and select Edit HTML Source
    24. Paste in the code from the blog post
    25. Click ok until back to page
    26. Select the Stop Editing Page button under the Page tab.
    27. It should appear as below.

    Hope this helps.

  • Steve,

If you create an announcements list within PWA, you can drop the Announcements web part on the home page.
