Can I migrate Sharepoint 3.0 database to Windows Internal/Embedded RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Sharepoint 3.0 was set up using SQL express 2008 R2 and has now hit it's 10gb limit. Am I able to migrate the database on to Windows Internal Database that will be installed on the same server as Sharepoint is currently on. I would rather do this as preference so that Sharepoint is on a standalone machine rather than attached to full SQL server (which we do have).

I'm aware of the various articles to move from Internal to SQL full but would like to migrate Sharepoint back to it's basic setup - i.e. using the internal dateabase - if possible.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Franz,

Yes you can do a reinstall of WSS3 and use WID which doesn't have any size limitation. Then connect to WID using Studio Manager and Connect to the database by entering \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query then attach your contentdb, remove the newly created contentdb from the WebApp and add the ContentDB you just added via studio manager.. Note: SharePoint Foundation 2010 no longer uses WID.
