SCCM Secondary Hardware Refresh RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We need to refresh one of secondary to new hardware. Is it possible or known to function well to backup OS and/or related components including drives data …to restore on to new hardware/same OS name. Both of them run Server 2012. Our Server admin says chances of driver issues likely to hit dead end, really ?

This secondary has 7 DPs attached to it, so I look to restore as much as possible, otherwise rebuild will be a overkill

    Thanks, Vasu

  • There is no supported backup and restore for secondary sites.

Your only supported option is to build a new secondary site. You can use content pre-staging to minimize the impact of rebuilding the DPs.

Alternatively, you may consider getting rid of the secondary site completely and simply using a DP and 7 Pull DPs. Without knowing any details about your network though, I can't say if this would be a good path or not.

  • Thanks Jason,

we also need Proxy MP, SUP hence SS is necessary. Pull DP is a good idea.

We are considering Server OS backup, restore, little risk with drivers of RAID etc, but should work. it supports OS and application in functional state as is they were before. Will keep you posted how it goes

    Thanks, Vasu
