Installing DPM on SQL 2008 R2 Environment Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, i am trying to install DPM in our environment.

In the SQL settings i point it to our SQL server and i get the following msg:

"Setup has detected that SQL Server 2008 Service pack 1 has not been installed on the servername\instance instance."

We are running r2 so cant install service pack 2? Or am i wrong?

    Is there a workaround?

  • Hi,

Windows Server 2008 R2 can be protected by DPM 2010 but DPM 2010 cannot use it to host the DPMDB. There is no ETA available at the moment.

  • Hi

I don't think it's supportet yet to install DPM on the same server as a SQL 2008 R2. I've heard that it will work ok with SQL2008.

  • Damn, anyone got a idea when it will be supported?

Think i would rather wait for that.

How easy is it to move database servers? Can i just attach DB on a different DB server and change a setting in DPM?

  • Hi, Anyone know if there is a ETA on this yet...Need to mmake a recommendation for a implementation but there is only SQL 2008 R2 servers.

This is forcing me to recommend Backup Exec for implementation where i would prefer this...

  • Hi,

We were also hoping to install the DPM database on our SQL 2008 R2 server but we were unable to connect to the SQL server during DPM 2010 installation. Will SQL 2008 R2 server be able to host a DPM 2010 database in the near future?

  • Currently DPM2010 doesnt support SQL 2008 R2 as a backend you have to use SQL 2008 with latest service pack.

  • While it is not specified in the installation guide, you CAN get DPM 2010 to work with SQL 2008 R2. You have to get your SQL server installed, updated, and configured properly prior to installing DPM 2010, but it is certainly possible.....and with no adverse side-effects.
