Database Connection: Which Ports to open? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

in my lab environment I installed 2 VMs: One for SQL 2012 and on the other VM I am trying to install the Service Manager Management Server. On the SQL I have installed the defalut instance with tcp port 1433. During the SM installation on step "configure the Service Manager database" I can not get a connection to my SQL server, only if I switch off the firewall. So it is obviously a port problem. Can you tell me which ports to open? 1433 is open!

I would really appreaciate an answer.

    Thanks in advance!

  • The installation process checks quite a bit of other information on that server, such as SQL revision, cluster status, OS configuration, service packs, etc before it accepts a database or instance for installation. none of this information is required for normal operation, just to make sure you are installing in a supported environment.

you might be best off simply disabling the firewall, performing the install, and re-enabling the firewall.
