Why are "Command Line" values for processes not running under my account blank in task manager? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello,

I have an issue where I am using a WMI query to the Win32_Process class in order to monitor the status of a specific process with a specific command line value on a Windows system.  Unfortunately it is failing because the "Command Line" property is always coming back as "NULL".

If I login to the system I am trying to monitor, open Task Manager and go to "Details" tab, all processes that are not running as me have a blank "Command Line" value.

Has anyone ever seen this?  Anyone have any guesses? A group policy of some kind?

    Let me know

  • This suggests that you don't have sufficient permission to see the command line for processes you don't own.

  • Agreed.  Even locally, without elevation, you will not see all command lines.
