AuthenTec AES2501A fingerprint reader isnt recognized RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows indicates that the reader is installed and working properly and that the drivers are up to date. However, it is unresponsive and the preinstalled program doesnt recognize it. I have updated the program and restarted the computer several times however the reader is still not detected. I have even gone to the DigitalPersona website but found nothing. I have a HP 2700DVt notebook and the reader is inside the chassis, so removing it isnt really an option.

  • I have the excact same problem, but none of the topics from the link are relevant (in my opinion). I even tried removing and finding again the device from device manager and all went well, but DigitalPersona Personal kept saying that fingerprint reader isn't connected. The laptop I have is HP HDX9200EO (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01372552) with AES2501A and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I also updated the drivers for AES2501A from HP site.

Windows Update had an update for this device, but the update failed and I cannot find a way to reinstall the update. I can still see the update in update history and it says the installation failed. This was before I installed the new drivers from HP site.

EDIT: The same thing happened after and before installing SP1 for Vista.

  • I had the same thing happen, and determined that you have to go back to an earlier version of the Authentec driver to make it work.  I tried 4 versions and the only one that works with DigitalPersona is 7.9.0.4, dated 2007-08-28.  You can find it on the HP Website.  It appears to be available in a number of Softpaqs, such as sp37815.exe, sp37812.exe and sp37920.exe.  Maybe these different versions are meant for different models, but they appear to be the same driver.  There is a brand new driver available from Windows Update, but it doesn't work.  I hope this works for you.

What is the KBxxxxxx number of the driver update on Windows Update?

    Thanks.

  • I had the same problem with my HP 6515b. I installed the optional Authentec AES2501A update and it caused my fingerprint reader to stop working. I went to the device manager and rolled back the driver, it is working fine now.

  • The sp37920.exe (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37920.exe) packet worked for me. Just remember to remove the old driver first.

  • Hey everyone!

To fix this issue go to device manager, then under personal identification devices, right click on the authentec fingerprint reader.

click on the driver tab, and click the roll back driver button...should fix the problem for you...I also tried EVERYTHING you guys mention but to no avail....this works!!!

  • Hi

I have the same problem on my HPdv2535ea laptop. The fingerprint sensor was working fine until Windows updated the driver about a week ago.

I have tried all the other drivers on this thread, but nothing happens and Windows ultimately automatically updates the driver anyway to the new one! I have windows updates set to ask me first, but this one has a mind of it's own.

I would go straight to the Device Manager and Rollback, but the option is greyed out. I have disable, deleted and reinstalled, everything.

    Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

  • I have tried all of the above as well.  I'm running on Ultimate Vista 64bit.  The driver has an update of 9/9/2008 and the rollback driver options is greyed out as well.  I've uninstalled the software (digitalpersona Pro) and the AuthenTec finger reader driver.  Even after reinstalling it all it still won't recognize.  Thoughts?  I have no freaking clue as to why this is now happening.  Oh I'm on a HP Pavillion dv6000 Special Edition.

    Thank you!

  • the option of rolling back the driver also worked very well in my PC.  I have a HP dv6575us.

Microsoft would disable this update before launch a fixed one, since this is causing many issues.

thanks all for the tips.  Good luck
