Compatible Door Entry Systems for Lync RRS feed

  • Hi,

    Not sure if anyone out there can help. Currently upgrading out Phone System from our aging Nortel BCM 400 to MS Lync. While we have near enough completed the upgrade, the only niggling issue is the door entry system.

    We currently have a door entry system that rings a hunt group when the buzzer is pressed. The buzzer/intercom then acts as a phone. The user can press a key to release the mag-lock and allow the door to be opened.

    Are there any compatible devices out there or someone else had to do something similar so that a door entry system can be used with Lync?

    I can't believe that Microsoft have failed to include a door entry device that is compatible with Lync.

  • take a look at snom PA1:
    http://www.snom.com/en/products/sip-paging/snom-pa1/

    i'm pretty sure it has ocs/lync firmware. but i will verify.

    update: just checked. there is a snom OCS edition 8.5.4 for snom pa1. This firmware is not qualified or optimized for Lync. Its just there.

    also be aware that you could also use an analogue door system with an ATA/FXS adapter.

  • I have now managed to configure this in the end using the guide from http://www.lynclog.com/2011/04/analog-phone-support-with-lync-2010.html, but using the already default TCP listening port of 5060 and keeping the '+' in front of the numbers.

    One thing with door phones is that you normally have a button that picks up when pressed and dials a number or hunt group. I created a hunt group within Lync to receive the calls and then enabled the 'auto dialling' option on the MP-114 and enetered the number from the hunt group into here.

    Our door phone was previously set up on the old phone system so that when we pressed a certain number on the phone, the door catch was released. This behaved exactly the same within Lync, so no changes had to be made. I know this has been a concern for some people I spoke to, so now I know it works, I'll let you know!

  • Had a test Snom PA1 system delivered. Although there is OCS edition firmware available, this is only for the PA system. To configure this for a door entry system, you have to download new firmware which makes use of the extra pins available to open the door lock.

    Now all I need to know is how this can be controlled by a Lync device... Anyone?

    Hi Matt,

    We have exactly the same issue with implementing Lync to replace a BCM400 wuth integrated door entry.

    How do you use ATA/FXS adaptors with Lync - I'm not aware of any that are compatible?

  • Hi Matt,

    Should have replied ages ago, but been busy with other things, but here is an update:

    Looked initially at the PA1 and as mentioned above, the OCS firmware is for the PA1 feature set, so upgraded to the latest DP (Door Phone) Firmware. This unfortunately is not OCS/UC compatible. Downloaded the UC firmware for the PA1 features and this while connecting to Lync did not have the features required as a Door Phone.

    I have contacted Snom, and they say they are developing a new DP firmware in their UC firmware range (compatible with Lync/OCS), but have no idea on release.

    Have now got an AudioCodes MP 114 FXS to try.

    It was easy enough to set up the AudioCodes gateway in the topology using the above guide, but because of our current Lync setup, the majority of all the phones are extensions with the same number eg tel:+441376512345;ext=2xx. When I try to set up the analog device though the lync powershell, it will only accept it, if the main phone number is different. I just want it to be tel:+441376512345;ext=290.

    Also, I need to configure the Door Phone, so that when the button is pressed, it calls or auto dials a dedicated Lync Group, or calls a hunt group that then calls the Lync group if possible. The users answering the door also then need to be able to press a number to release the door strike. 

    I just can't understand why this, a standard feature in many phone systems is so hard to find support in Lync. It just seems crazy that we have a whole Nortell BCM phone system running, just to allow us to answer the door, when we have fully migrated to Lync.

    If you Matt, or anyone else can help in resolving this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sorry resurrect an old thread.

    Has anyone found any good solutions for a door entry system that includes video? I'm a little nervous about opening a door for someone I can't see.

  • Well, here's what I ended up doing: https://forum.snom.com/index.php?showtopic=12303

    I spent a lot of time figuring out how to build a door phone for Lync 2013. The documentation was very poor and fragmented. So, I thought I'd share how I did it so that others could benefit.

     

    1. I started with the Snom PA1 and updated it to the UC edition firmware.
    2. I purchased an AIPHONE LE-A and a mini mic from Amazon.
    3. I setup a ring group for the doorbell in Microsoft Lync
    4. I entered the UC account data into the PA Web UI.
    5. I setup speed dial "1" to be the doorbell ring group.
    6. I set auto dial to "after 2 seconds" It is located in Advanced > Behavior > Auto Dial
    7. I set it to auto answer in Identity 1 > SIP > Auto Answer. This allows me to call it if necessary.
    8. I inserted the mini mic into the "mic in" jack.
    9. I opened the AIPHONE and soldered wires from the AIPHONE speaker and connected them to the "Speaker" connectors on the PA1.
    10. I connected the wiring harness to the KBD (keyboard) port of the PA1 and soldered the white and purple (6 and 7) wires onto switch on the board in the AIPHONE. Thus by pressing the button on the AIPHONE, it dials the number 1 and after 2 seconds, speed dials my doorbell ring group.
    11. I connected the wiring harness to the I/O 2 port of the PA 1. The black wire is ground, brown is always 12 V (good as a power supply for a relay).  Yellow is pin 3 and purple is pin 4. These can be connected to a relay for a door strike, door opener and etc. I haven't done this yet, but I plan to. The first PA1 unit I had did not supply 3.3V to pin 3 and 4 when activated. So, I had to get another unit.
    12. You can turn these pins on by dialing 3# or 4# when in a call to the PA1. You can also turn them on in the web UI: Preferences > PA1 controls > Pin 3.

    There were numerous other steps and dead-ends that I ran into before I came up with this simplified list. I've eliminated all my "wrong" steps to keep it simple.  :rolleyes:

     

    Please let me know if I've missed anything. I hope this is helpful to those who would like to do the same thing. 

     

    My total costs were:

    • $105 for the PA1
    • $24 for the AIPHONE
    • $5.05 for the mini mic
    • Total out of pocket $134.05
    • Lots of time, hassle, forum reading, posting and soldering

    My next project is an outdoor doorbell. I'm looking for an affordable weather resistant door bell. If you have any ideas, please post.

  • I was recently looking for a Microsoft Lync certified intercom. I found it a struggle to find one. The end user had a Sonus 2000 gateway. I looked on the Sonus webiste and it recommended CyberData as a approved SIP door entry intercom to work with Microsoft and Sonus.     It was easy to set up, just a single cat5e cable back to a POE switch.
