SCCM 2K12 SP1 still provide content information to other system center components that have been upgraded to R2 version?

I like a straight answer on this topic and still like to know if SCCM SP1 can still be used and SCSM 2K12 R2 still pull information from SCCM 2K12 SP1 SQL DB..

I am thinking about upgrading SCSM 2K12 to R2 and will it still be able to access CMDB in SCCM 2K12 SP1? Or i have to still upgrade SCCM 2K12 to R2 for everything to work properly.
