Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object RRS feed

  • Question

  • One cannot directly define a table in Power query without using "let" and "in" when the "Enable Column Profiling" preview feature is enabled.

    A blank query with:

    let
        A = #table({"Col1", "Col2"},{{1,2}})
    in
        A

    is fine (has no error).

    However these (and I have not exhausted all the combinations):

    #table({"Col1", "Col2"},{{1,2}})
    [A = #table({"Col1", "Col2"},{{1,2}})][A]
    Table.FromRows({{1,2}},{"Col1", "Col2"})
    Table.FromColumns({{1},{2}},{"Col1", "Col2"})

    Will return the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when clicking on them in Power Query. The tables will still work in Power BI though.

    The new updated version of Power BI is getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in other places as well. This is quite bad, my clients report could not be used for a presentation to senior employees today. I will investigate when I see the client tomorrow.

  • Hello CamWally,

    thanks for reporting the issue. We were able to verify that this is a regression introduced in the latest version of PowerBI Desktop and we are working on a fix. It will get fixed in future releases of the product.
