Does this issue occur with other chat software? Can you hear and record sound normally?
This issue seems to be specific, I would like to propose the following suggestions.
1. Run Windows internal Sound Recorder to see if you can record sound.
2. Download the latest version of Yahoo Messenger and perform a reinstallation. Based on my research, you can download it from the following website.
