Enabling Windows 7 Themes via commands line RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hey there i am having some problems i need to enable my themes silently or on the fly without the personalization screen opening up, i have looked around and
found nothing or even a way to close personalization window without ending explorer i am making a simply UI changer on the they that changes the theme and
other settings i like to have as i have many windows 7 systesm and i like to use one program to do this and enable my settings on new systsm and if a friend wants the same kind of setup the just run it all, it all works part from this stupid personalization window opens and i can't find a handle to close it.

is there a command to close the cpl not the explorer i need to be able to call it via bat or command line silently as i am not using .NET or C*, I am using lua and i just
need littl help to fix this.

    Thanks
    Rex

  • Hi Rexzooly,

There seems no command line for Windows 7 to apply custom Theme.
Windows 7 Command lines list: http://commandwindows.com/windows7-commands.htm

LUA is designed as a scripting language with extensible semantics as a primary goal. (I hope I have not mistaken you what you mean).

I can give you an idea as work around, hope it would be helpful.
Apply a theme associated with account

Since this issue is more related to scripting, I recommend you open a thread to Official Scripting Guys Forum in Technet so those coders can help you fix the issue in a timely manner.

If you want to enable a custon theme, you need to create a theme file and apply the theme from Command Promot.

As to you need to modify themes on your other Windows 7 systems, you can revise a custom theme and then shared for others.

@ Linda Yab Please don't make thing as answered when i hace not commented back, windows 7 lets you share themes this is right what my goal is, is to enable them without the personaliztion window opening but they need to be enabled there and then not when the user restarts the computer.

your right martin lua is scripting lang but my program is made in that scripting lang and calls the windows files when needed not really a problem there i just need
to install a theme on the fly silent and enable without the silly window opening, any more ideas would be helpful mean time i will give these links a read more thanks.

This matter is still un answered so poeoples don't set it so, it 3 days since the reply not eveyone is able to get online asap and i was only just told today there was reply in the first place.

  • Hi,

I would like to bring these links to help you:

    http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8856

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/043b0ff7-2d52-43cf-a7ae-b6988c3f8fee (It discusses how to show the theme command on right-click menu and other related information)

http://blog.infinitered.com/entries/show/3 (it is to convert textmate theme with Ruby)

In GUI environment, it seems to be not a viable to modify the detail settings without the assistance of CPL. From my opinion, to deploy the theme to your other windows 7 machines, I recommend you to share the theme as a workaround.

    Await your replies!

  • Thanks for the links i give them a read, my theme packs that are made with windows se7en are packed with custom environment settings
to so with that theme and in future also be packed with custom sounds and login images, the program works just the silly CPL opens, if i can't
have this not open maybe away to close the CPL i tryed to emulate the windows and end it but this wont work as the CPL does not included its self as a stand alone program, maybe we could find away just to close it this would be a great work around as it closeds it and thats really the
think my beta testers told me got on there tests,

Also i have no set up a new website so this comming week i will complie my work again and host it so you lot are able to view the work, the
program will be free anyway when its finished, i will also include my 2 themes i have made with the program but i have to get the app of my
laptop and tweek and complie, thanks for all your ideas and info Martin 7.

hopefully we can get this to work soon lol.
