Cognos TM1 10.2 / App-V 5.1 - ERROR: AppData download task failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    System specs: Windows 2008 R2 SP1, App-V 5.1 HF1

I'm sequencing several IBM Cognos applications with App-V 5.1 which all work fine except for one, Cognos TM1. I can't seem to get this application to work I always get the same message upon launching the application:

The application failed to launch - This may be due to a network failure. Error code: 0x8F10252A-00000002

No matter what I try it always comes up with that error. Even when I try to do cmd.exe /appvve:packageid_packageversion it comes up with that error as well. I've been repackaging and trying different things for a while now but right now I'm completely lost. I also tried to mount the package, so fully load it on the client since we use SCS, same error. All other App-V 5.1 applications work just fine on the same system.

When I enable the debug log, it generates a lot of errors. At the end it says Appdata download task failed which makes sense because when I look in %localappdata%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS\DFC02932-EEEB-44A1-831F-D66EC6C27670 all the folders of the application are there but there are no files, they are missing.

Any clue on why this is happening with this specific application only?

    Thanks!

  • Double check the report with files the sequencer ignored, due to its exclusion list. Maybe the application is installing resources into a location excluded by default like LocalAppData (some do that).

Also, you might try a PVAD install.

If you open/extract the package with 7-zip, does it contain all the application files?

I've checked the exclusion list there's not much excluded just a few temp files in the temp folder in local appdata, nothing special. When I extract the package yes all the files are there, I can even start the app from the extracted files.

I will try to do the PVAD install next. Thanks for your prompt reply!

  • Glad I could help Martijn. I know very well how a package can eat your entire week and then you discover a small little change ( or bug in the repackager :( ) was all that it needed :)

  • This app has been added to the PVAD list here: http://www.tmurgent.com/TmBlog/?p=2264

PS:  IBM software is generally known to have issues with extended path length issues solved by PVADing, but yet most people don't report the exact software to me so they don't get added to the list.
